At a time when the harvesting of rabi crops is in full swing across the country, sudden changes in weather have posed new challenges for farmers. Due to the influence of a Western Disturbance, warnings for thunderstorms, rainfall, and hailstorms have been issued in several states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this adverse weather pattern is expected to persist in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Chandigarh over the coming days.
Weather Forecast for Madhya Pradesh:
Rain and hailstorm activity may subside, but temperatures are expected to rise by 3–4°C.
A new Western Disturbance will affect the region from March 25–26.
Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain to witness intense sunlight, while Shahdol, Rewa, Sidhi, Mauganj, and Anuppur face crop damage due to hail and rain.
Crops such as chickpeas (chana), lentils (masoor), pigeon peas (arhar), and wheat have been affected.
Between March 27 and 31, temperatures may exceed 40°C, increasing the risk of heatwaves.
Weather Conditions in Punjab and Chandigarh:
Rising heat levels with maximum temperatures ranging between 29°C and 33°C.
A 59% rainfall deficit recorded between March 1 and 22.
A new Western Disturbance will become active from the night of March 24, affecting the western Himalayan region.
Temperatures may increase by 3–4°C in the next four days.
Worsening Weather in Uttar Pradesh – Farmers on Alert:
Farmers are taking drainage and protective measures to save their crops.
Prayagraj recorded as the hottest city at 36.7°C, while Kanpur was the coldest at 12.4°C.
Winds may blow at 40–50 km/h, increasing the risk to standing crops.
Temperatures could cross 40°C in the last week of March.
Advice for Farmers:
Ensure proper drainage to protect crops from rain and hail damage.
Harvest crops early where possible to minimize losses.
