The Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme has been introduced to help farmers recover from losses caused by natural calamities. The scheme aims to provide financial support to farmers in case of crop damage. However, many farmers who have suffered losses are still awaiting their insurance claims. To resolve this issue, Rajasthan’s Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirori Lal Meena has instructed state officials to expedite the processing of all pending claims.
Under the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme, the Agriculture and Horticulture Minister has directed concerned officials to promptly disburse the pending insurance claims to farmers. From 2017 to 2022-23, around ₹77.98 crore in claims remain unpaid with insurance companies. Many of these delays are due to issues related to bank account details.
To resolve the pending claims, agricultural supervisors and assistant agricultural officers will set up camps to collect necessary documents from affected farmers, including Aadhaar cards, updated bank account details, death certificates (if applicable), and other required documents. This process will be completed quickly to provide farmers with timely relief.
Resolution of Bank Account and Aadhaar Verification Issues: Earlier, the state government had issued directives to clear pending claims, but payments were delayed due to issues with bank account and Aadhaar verification. To resolve these, meetings have been held with insurance companies under the chairmanship of district collectors. As a result, it has been decided that all pending insurance claims will be settled by November 2024, ensuring timely assistance to farmers.
Conclusion: The Crop Insurance Scheme plays a vital role in protecting farmers from natural disasters. The government's initiative aims to ensure that farmers receive timely financial support, alleviating their challenges and ensuring their economic stability.
