The Indore Agricultural Produce Market in Madhya Pradesh has recently experienced notable fluctuations in the prices of potatoes, onions, and garlic. For farmers and traders, staying informed about these changes is essential. Let’s delve into the latest market trends and understand the factors influencing these price shifts.

Drop in Potato Prices:

Potato prices have significantly declined in the past three days. With an arrival of nearly 10,000 bags, reduced demand in North India and the ongoing harvest in Punjab have contributed to this drop, causing traders to face financial losses.

Current Potato Prices:

  • Chips Potatoes: Wholesale rates have plummeted from ₹42-45 per kg to ₹27-28 per kg.
  • Ration Quality Potatoes: Prices are now ₹12-15 per kg.

Varietal Prices:

  • Chips Potatoes: ₹2,700-2,800 per quintal
  • Pukhraj Potatoes: ₹1,200-1,500 per quintal
  • ATL Medium Potatoes: ₹1,800-2,000 per quintal
  • Pukhraj Medium Potatoes: ₹1,000-1,100 per quintal
  • Agra Potatoes: ₹1,400-1,500 per quintal

Stability in Onion Prices: Onion prices have remained relatively stable with minor variations depending on supply and demand.

Current Onion Prices:

  • Wholesale Onions: ₹3,200-3,300 per quintal
  • Average Onions: ₹2,700-2,800 per quintal
  • Goltha Onions: ₹2,400-2,500 per quintal
  • Golti Onions: ₹1,500-1,800 per quintal

Strengthening of Garlic Prices: Garlic prices have firmed up this week, with approximately 4,000 bags arriving at the market. Price variations depend on the garlic quality.

Current Garlic Prices

  • Super Bold Garlic: ₹24,000-25,000 per quintal
  • Medium Garlic: ₹17,000-18,000 per quintal
  • Small Garlic: ₹12,000-15,000 per quintal

Reasons Behind Price Fluctuations:

  1. Demand and Supply: Reduced potato demand in North India and fresh arrivals from Punjab are exerting downward pressure on prices.
  2. Weather and Production: Consistent arrivals of onions and garlic have helped maintain their prices.
  3. Trading Losses: Falling potato prices have caused financial strain for traders.

Conclusion: The prices of potatoes, onions, and garlic in the Indore market continue to fluctuate daily, reflecting changes in demand, supply, and production trends. For farmers and traders, staying informed about these updates is critical for making well-timed decisions about crop sales and purchases.
