New Delhi: A piece of great news for farmers! Now, millet farming can yield better production with less time, effort, and cost. The improved variety of millet, Pusa-443, developed by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), is proving to be a profitable option for farmers. This variety matures in just 80 days and is highly resistant to diseases.

Low Irrigation, High Yield: No Barrier from Heat and Drought:

The biggest feature of Pusa-443 is that it requires very little water. This variety performs exceptionally well in high-temperature and drought conditions, making it an ideal choice for regions where irrigation resources are limited.

Disease Resistance Offers Extra Protection:

Pusa-443 is resistant to diseases like Downy Mildew and Blast, providing added protection compared to traditional varieties. This resistance also helps farmers save on the additional costs of pesticides and chemicals.

Simple Farming Techniques and Better Results with Organic Fertilizers:

To grow Pusa-443, deep plowing of the soil and the use of well-rotted cow dung manure are essential. For sowing, farmers require 6 to 8 kilograms of seed per hectare. They can further improve soil quality by using organic fertilizers like vermicompost or neem cake.

Up to 30 Quintals per Hectare, Earning Lakhs Possible:

The yield from this variety can reach as high as 30 quintals per hectare. Assuming an average market price of ₹2000 per quintal for millet, farmers can earn ₹60,000 or more per hectare. With advanced techniques and proper management, this number can be even higher.

Pusa-443 Millet: A Step Towards Sustainable Farming and Nutritional Security:

Millet is not just a nutrient-dense grain but also a resilient farming choice in the face of climate change. Varieties like Pusa-443 empower farmers economically while strengthening the goals of sustainable agriculture. Agriculture experts are advising farmers to adopt this variety for better profitability and sustainability.
